"Pedras negras" Fiction by Dias de Melo

Because it is Azoreanity we speak of when we speak of Pedras Negras, the Azoreanity from Pico, that is to say, the soul of a people who has never let themselves go soft on account of "famines, droughts, cyclones, fire of volcanoes, earthquakes" survived on an island of black stones from where they always wanted to leave (because "the island pushes us away"), and to where they always wanted to return (because the island calls for us).
