“Um Coração Simples” is a poetic work composed of 36 poems, divided by some quotes into four “movements”. It was an honorable mention in LABJOVEM – Young Creators of the Azores (2010), a competition by the Regional Directorate da Juventude, organized by the Burra de Milho Cultural Association from 2007 to 2017.

That same year, “Um Coração Simples” was awarded the Manuel Alegre Poetry Prize and published, under the terms of the prize, by the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria. In the meantime, the edition was sold out.

“Um Coração Simples” is a recommended reading by the “Ler Açores” Program, through the list of Recommended Books for 2020/2021, of the Regional Reading Plan, of the Regional Directorate of Education.

Daniel Gonçalves

Born in 1975 in Wetzikon, Zurich, Daniel da Silva Gonçalves is a poet and teacher. He grew up in Santo Tirso, studied in Braga, has been living on the island of Santa Maria since 1999. He has already been awarded the First Prize for Poetry in the International Poetry Competition of the Centro Internazionale Amici Scuola (CIAS), promoted by UNESCO, Italy, in 1993 ; the Poetry Revelation Prize in 1997, promoted by the Portuguese Association of Writers/Portuguese Institute of Books and Libraries; and Cesário Verde Prize in 2003. In 2007 he was awarded the LABJOVEM Prize, in the field of Literature, and in 2010 he won the Manuel Alegre Poetry Prize. In 2011 he was distinguished with the Poetry Prize “Agostinho Gomes”, in 2013 the Literary Prize “António Cabral” and the Literary Prize “Cidade de Almada”. He was the winner of the XVI Edition of the Literary Prize “Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage” and an honorable mention of the Humanities Prize “Daniel de Sá”, in 2014.
